Four months from today we plan on being unemployed. That is when the RV adventure will begin. What are we doing to prepare.
In the pass, life has been about getting ahead. Well, it is time to rethink. Craig will only be 57, to young for Social Security. I have been planning our finances for the last 2 years.
Without his paycheck we will be living on savings. How much savings is needed? From all of my research, mostly reading blogs, I believe $35,000 a year will pay our bills and let us travel in comfort.
One of the most important thing a full time RV’er needs, is to be debt free. Even with everything paid, our basic bills will run about $1,200 a month. It’s the yearly things that run that total up, like insurances, taxes, and all that.
The biggest ‘if’ factor, is the cost of medical insurance and medical care. Craig’s one medicine cost between $8,000 and $12,000 a year. We meet our prescription deductible for him by February, every year. He has several doctor appointments coming up and we will discuss our plans with the dr.
In my working career I have saved enough to pay our way for two years. This leaves Craig’s savings alone. He is just too young. Ha Ha. So the thought is to go two years, or how ever long the $’s last, and see about working after that, if needed.
From all that I have read I believe the only regret, we will have, is that we didn’t do this sooner.
On a lighter note. Craig went to Lowes and Wal Mart. Lowes he purchased some pipe and stuff to add a place on the Condo, to store extra sewer pipe, will post pictures as he goes alone. Wal Mart was for groceries, he must have been hungry, because he spent $103.00. Only thing that was not grocery, was a can of Raid Flea Spray (purple can), seems the dogs and house have fleas. Thought that was not going to happen this year, it is the middle of August. The Raid can was $9.64, I think that is expensive.
