Louisiana....OurTakeOnFreedom

OurTakeOnFreedom said that in all honestly things go wrong only about 75% of the time, not all the time. He is right, but our water leaks where 100%, at that moment. We are rewarded that most of the time we can fix our mess ups. Motor homes are both a vehicle and a house and has all the maintenance associated with both. Guess that is the challenge of our life.

I have notice (first hand) what happens when a human just sits around and watches the walls fall down around them. Then pass the comment that no one would help them.

OurTakeOnFreedom, I needed to be reminded that 'This too will pass', and life is not all problems.

We plan on leaving tomorrow and hope to be in San Antonia in a few days. Should stay in the area a week.

I couldn't be happier.

I hope my friend Linda will be happy living in the house.

Louisiana...Filling water tanks..leaks

Slow but sure, we will get on the road, for our trip. But first we need water in the holding tanks and the hot water heater put back together.

Craig replace the anode rod .

We used one of those adapters that fit a vacuum hose, they are used to clean you dryer vents or under a refrigerator. But we hooked it to a shop vacuum and added water thru the drain plug and sucked all of this out.
Wow
This has been done 4 or 5 times over the last 2 years. Wow, what does water do to us. Hope out pumping is self cleaning.

Everything went wrong, that is how it is with a motorhome. The 3 way valve used to hook the water hose too, is broke. Guess it froze. Craig rode to Dixie RV near Hammond, La. They did not have the part but could order it, cost $239.00. Sheesh, trip to Lowes and we have a temporary fix for just a few dollars. We will be in Goshen, IN in May for a Holiday Rambler maintenance rally and we will fix it then.

More problems but this is enough for now. Will tell later.

I love the RV lifestyle. Really I do

Louisiana..Border on Hoarders

I'm sure you have watched the TV show Hoarders. Well, that is what this house is looking like. Borderline hoarders. Over the years we have lived in 20 different places. So we have collected stuff and lots of times we just carried the stuff here, to this house, and left it. Now all of the collected stuff has found it's way to this house. Piled up the walls, it is driving us nuts. I know 'short trip'.

We could stay here for months to purge this stuff, but the open road is calling. So we will just leave here this week. But when we return our plans are to change this and purge our life of all the material unnecessary things. Wish us luck.

Some of our neighbors have already benefited with our free things. Funny how free brings out the nasty neighbors. But guess who is laughing.

Coming home...and the drama is still here

As much as we all love (the idea) of coming home, we have fallen right back into all the drama of family and friends. We try not to get involved.

My goodness, over all these years, things have happened, the good and the bad. But the drama never goes away. And it doesn't take long to be right back in the middle. Could not fix anything years ago and can not fix it today. Neighbors in a tiny community can become ugly.

Craig and I have lived totally alone most of the last 20 years. It is always quiet and under control (mostly). I think I like it like that. Who says you have to have lots of family and friends around alllllll of the time?

Re-packed the large bay on the Condo and started re-thinking all of the kitchen items. Surely, we don't need all the plates and glasses we use in the house. Six neighbor men arrived and moved the 500 pound safe upstairs. That was amazing. Thanks guys.

Tenant for the house

My long time friend will be living in our home. Linda has lived here several times over the last 20 years. She will have the AC running and this is great for a home, on the river, that has high humidity and will flood.

Linda wrecked her car last week and has a rental. A convertible, so we just had to Cruise around. Today was a perfect day for the top down. We would have really enjoyed this car 25 years ago.

Next Wednesday is the day will hope to leave. I am sooooooo ready.

We have a new follower. Welcome, Marcelo. I feel special when someone signs on as caring. Thanks to everyone.

Camping in the driveway...Louisiana

From morning to late, we are busy. Busy trying to unpack boxes, clean the house, and fix what needs fixing.

Among the 'To Do' was wash the Condo. I pressure washed the roof for 3 hours and then Craig washed the sides. Looks really nice. Now we have all the awnings pulled out. This is a first, never had all the awnings out. But we needed to clean them and let them dry.

The day time temps have reached the 70's, so the sun is warm. Setting under the awning was nice.

The motorhome barely fits in the front drive, and it hasn't sunk. Thank goodness. We are very glad it fit in the drive.

On Valentine's Day we gave the Famous Chief his final place to rest. In his yard, where he grew up.

Driver License expired two months ago

Did it again. My license expired on my birthday Dec 12, 2010. Told my dear husband I need to go to Hammond, La and get my license because it is expired. He blew a fuse (I knew he would). After 20 plus years you would think he would understand who he married and that I probably will never change.

Left Craig home to play with all these boxes and I drove to the DMV. About 30 minutes into waiting, a lady announced the photo taking machine was broken. Some people really got verbal about this and stormed out the door. Sheeesh, what luck. Asked if I could get everything but the picture because my license was expired. They said sure.

I have a CDL license but could not find my medical card that says I am OK to drive a big rig. So, they would not issue my CDL. But they did make the license a Chauffeur. If I can bring the medical card in, they will fix it back to CDL. Costs for the license was $52.00. Late charge was $15.00.

Left the DMV for lunch and shopping at Office Depot. Returned to the DMV about 2 pm and the photo machine was fixed and I received my picture ID. Made an OK picture.

I wanted to know what tickets where listed on my license. The lady looked and said nothing showed on my record. That's good, because that is what it is suppose to be. Hopefully, it stays that way.

Medical care on the road

Doctor appointment for Craig. Again he is the new patience. You may remember last week we went into downtown New Orleans to see Dr. Sanders, but because a transformer blew, and the building was out of electric service. Craig did not get in. Seems Dr. Sanders actually talked about meeting with Craig in his car that day. Not sure what to think about that.

Dr Sanders turned out to be a very down to earth, regular guy. I went into the office with Craig, I have questions too. Craig's psoriasis and arthritis is one disease. I never understood that. Dr. Sanders would like Craig to stay on the Enbrel. He has been on this 6 years. I wanted to know how long he would be on this stuff. The answer was forever, or as long as it continued to work. The Enbrel has stopped the ongoing damage to Craig's small joints.

Enough of that. The problem is that he has to see a Dr every 2 1/2 months for blood work, just to get a refill on a prescription that he has taken for 6 years. How is this going to happen on the road. Dr Sanders says he will make it work. We will call every 2 1/2 months and look for a Quest Diagnostic place, Dr Sanders will email the 'orders' for blood work. Take a look at the results and if no problems, would send the prescription on to our mail order place. We would call Accendo (mail order) and tell them where to send the Enbrel. Remember this is a drug that has to be refrigerated.

Dr Sanders suggested that we not take any chances with our medical insurance. If we look for another policy we could get caught in the un-insurable/existing catalog. So I guess Cobra will be Craig's medical coverage.

All of my budgeting now will have to be increase by four or five hundred dollars a month.

Options we might have are Social Security Disability, back to work or Veteran Affairs. Craig was in the Air Force for 8 years.

Friends for 50 years

Linda and I have been friends for a long long time. Some of these years we had thousand of miles between us, but we always manage to come full circle.

Linda arrived Sunday afternoon and watched the BIG game with us. She stayed overnight and left this afternoon. She lives with her Mom and didn't have anyone else to 'be there' for tonight. I know she is doing the right thing for her Mom, but I wish she had more of a life.

Over the years we both have changed, a lot. I have faired far better than she. Linda knows this, I wish I could help her. I have helped over the years but as Craig and I get older we have realized that we can not save the world. We are very fortunate to have each other. Very fortunate.

This is Linda and I in the 80's. We knew how to party and we did.

We are still unpacking boxes. Craig has moved to working in the yard. We are tired of having all our days involve boxes. Joe, I know you get that!!!

Feb 23rd...estimated date to depart

Asked Craig to set a date to begin our first RV trip. We have chores that have to be done, but these things can go on forever!!!

Among the to-do list is changing over our medical insurance. Craig is officially no longer employed on Feb 17th. That means his medical is over. I intend on purchasing a separate policy for me and maybe having Craig's coverage continue under Cobra. The Cobra insurance went up $400 a month from the 2010 amounts. How can this be allowed? For two people in 2010 the amounts was listed at $973 a month, the 2011 is listed for $1372 a month. And that is for 20% coverage and $1500 deductible.

Among the list of to-do's, is TAXES.

Today Craig wanted to go to Cabela's. So we did. Just walked around, he could not find any thing to buy. Seems that Cabela and Bass Pro both have gotten ridiculous on their prices.

Nice day out tho. Stopped for Popeyes fried chicken. Boy, life is good.

How did the bad storm affect you

Tuesday, Feb 1st was Craig doctor's appointment for his arthritis. You may remember he takes injections of Enbrel and has for the past 6 years. Finding doctors that know anything about psoriatic arthritis is a problem. He made this appointment in December. Because he will, again, be a new patient, we had to go to New Orleans for the first time visit.

The wind was blowing and the rain was heavy, at times it was hard to stay on I-55. From Ponchatola to New Orleans the highway is elevated. Then there is New Orleans. We are not city folks, so this is hard for us. But we only got lost once, right at the Superdome. Wow, that place is huge.

Found the doctor's office but a electrical transformer had just blown up and the lights where out. So the 10 story building was on 'lock down'. LOL these security people are excitable.

Didn't see the doc today, they rescheduled for Feb 8th, but in Hammond, Louisiana. Hammond is only about 20 miles from the house. New Orleans office was 73 miles.

What's that old sayin 'Life is what happens when you have other plans'.

While the weather was extreme here, I think we missed the worst of it. Hoping the best for the North and east. They are getting hammered, again.

Had lunch at a Mexican place and spent $200.00 in Lowes.
