Pioneer Playhouse...Danville, KY

Pioneer Playhouse
Danville, KY

Founded by Co. Eben Henson this is the oldest outdoor theatre in KY.

Col Henson also replicated old downtown Danville. With original material when he could savage it.

This is what he recalled old downtown Danville

Miranda: The Catch of the Day. Adapted from Miranda by Peter Blackmore. Doing a fishing expedition a doctor ‘catches’ a mysterious creature. Brings her home to heal her wound from the fish hook. Started a bit slow, like most all shows do, but soon we where rolling laughing.

What a delightful night. Arrived about 45 minutes before the show. Had ice cream and toured the buildings on site. We needed more time to see all, but still very nice.

Susan and I had purchased our tickets the day before and we had the best seats. Second row from front and just to right of stage. Cost was $45 dollars for 3 seats. We did not do the dinner part. Dinner would have been $12 more per person. Self guided tour of the grounds is free and you can stop by anytime for that. I enjoyed the grounds very very much. You should stop if near Danville, KY. Also take in Constitution square about 2 miles away in downtown Danville.

A 35 site year round, campground is about 100 yards from the playhouse. Cost $25 night, $150 week, and $400 month. Tent Sites also.

Some of the famous Alumni that have passed thru. Playhouse is in its 61 first season. They are listed as John Travolta, Lee Major, Bo Hopkins, and Jim Varney. Other successes are listed but not as well know.

Enough for today……more tomorrow. Pizza today!!!!
