10:30 Day out with Husband
Versailles, KY is only about 20 miles from downtown Lexington and 30 miles to Frankfort, KY, which is Ky capital.
Versailles has a museum at the railroad depot, called Bluegrass Rail.
Trains ran from Cincinnatti, OH to Lexington and to Louisville, KY, to name a few places. Many of these routes where used to transport the horses for the Ky Derby. Horses are a big deal here in these rolling pastures.
New Jersey #1310
-Built in the early 1930's by New Jersey Car & Foundry. A day coach, 1310 saw years of service on the Central Railroad of New Jersey on commuter trains operating between New York and it's outlying communities. 1310 saw service all the way into the days of the New Jersey Transit System until finally retiring. Today she serves on the museums excursion train. The coaches seat backs flip over so that when they back up you can still ride in a forward directions. These coaches just commuted back and forth from New Jersey to New York.
The museum is nice. This was the best part of the visit.
Railroad bridge. This is a replica of one connecting Woodford Country and Anderson Country. All though not used, we saw this bridge when we took the Wild Turkey Bourbon Plant tour in Lawrencburg, KY. That was fun. This bridge is right next to the Bourbon Plant.
The one hour, 7 mile train ride cost us $20. On a scale of 0 to 10 for ‘is it worth it’. This would be a 1. This train ride was a singing ride, so we where entertain. Sort of!!!
